Glass EntranceNortbrook Court is one of Chicago’s most successful regional malls. Built in the 1976, the mall anchors Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Macys and AMC Theaters. It is located in Northbrook, Illinois in Chicago’s North Shore.
The owner and contractor’s challenge was to update the four public entrances to the mall with glass canopy cladding and updated signage.
GlassWorks was selected as glazier to engineer, fabricate and install all the glass canopy cladding on the four entrances to this facility. Key elements included laminated, curved and oversized architectural glass and a stainless steel support system that provides the appropriate sleekness and modernity that a Chicago’s premier mall operator demands.

Goals & Challenges
The entrance canopies at Northbrook Court posed two principal unique challenges for GlassWorks.
The first was designing and specifying the appropriate glass system for an exterior application. The glass was oversized, curved and one of a kind – stretching over thirty five feet and supported over sixteen feet in the air. Additionally, the glass needed to be laminated for an appropriate degree of opacity and weather Chicago’s famous climate.
The second was installing the canopy glass without interfering with the mall operations. There are 125 stores and over a million square feet of retail space at Northbrook Court. We put together a team to renovate the canopy entrances over the course of one week and during the nighttime hours in strict accordance with the Mall’s facility and insurance requirements.
Our Results
The Northbrook Court Canopies were renovated on time on budget to outstanding reviews and they continue to perform well throughout the Chicago winter. We received high recommendations from our client for our attention to detail and speed of execution.
